7 stunning views that prove Donegal Airport is one of earth's most scenic landing locations

It certainly beats terminal one in Dublin.

1. Donegal has got some serious scenery and Donegal Airport in Carrickfinn is no exception

An independent panel of travel industry experts compiled a shortlist of the planets most scenic airports. Then they allowed the public to vote for the top ten most scenic landing locations in the world, and Donegal Airport ranked second place only behind Juancho E Yrausquin Airport in Saba.

2. When you look at it, it’s clear that the spot is well deserved

3. If you’re comfortable flying on one of those regional planes with propellers, it definitely looks worth checking out

4. When landing in Donegal Airport you’re spoiled with things to look at. There’s Mount Errigal:

5. In fact, most of the Derryveagh Mountains are visible on approach:

6. And an amazing view of Glenveagh National Park:

With a landscape like that, half of your sightseeing is already done before you’ve even gotten off of the plane

Flights to and from this airport are scheduled twice daily so this could be an excellent plan for a weekend away, if even just to check out the airport. It’s only a 15 minute drive from Dungloe (so you could pop into the Daniel O’Donnell visitor centre), 45 minutes from Letterkenny and an hour from Donegal town.

7. If the Daniel O’Donnell visitor centre sounds too tame for you, there’s also the option to skydive into the second most scenic airport in the world too.
